The Siege of Quebec through May 1776

While the bulk of the Royal Fuziliers were spread from Montreal to Ft St. Jean and subsequently captured, a detachment remained in Quebec.  The 83 man Quebec detachment was under the command Captain Humphrey Owen.  However, these men were drawn from  all of the other companies, save Capt Kinnear's Grenadier Company.  This detachment included 5 officers,  1 surgeon's mate, 1 sergeant, 6 drummers and 70 privates.

After the Rebel forces were driven from Quebec and the St Lawrence River thawed, Capt Owen, Lt's Layard, LeMaitre, Selwyn, Sgt Whitaker and the 6 drummers were sent back to England for Recruiting duty.  The 70 privates left in Quebec were drafted on May 26, 1776 into Burgoyne's corps.  Most went to the 47th Regiment of Foot.  After fighting in the Saratoga Campaign, they were surrendered and marched south into captivity as the Convention Army.  Some escaped and made their way to New York City, but the majority remained prisoners of war until the war's end.
