The uniform coat was made of madder red wool, and lined with natural white bay. The facings were dark blue, with regimental pattern white lace with a dark blue stripe near it's edge. The coat had 38 large, and 2 small regimental pattern buttons.
The coats were fitted by regimental tailors when issued so the men made a smart and martial appearance.
The 3" wide, dark blue lapels held 10 evenly spaced buttons. The regimental pattern lace was folded inverse from typical rectangular lace patterns. The lapels could be unbuttoned and fastened across the soldier's chest to keep his body warm in cold weather.
The collar seams were typically butt-stitched and pointed at the back. They were made of 2 layers of wool, the top being the facing cloth and the underside of body material. This collars could be turned up to protect the soldier's neck in cold weather.
The Royal Fusiliers wore 2 shoulder straps as a regimental distinction. The 1.5" wide strap is bound with regimental lace and secured with a small regimental button.
Each 3.5" deep cuff had 4 evenly spaced loops and buttons. The top button rested just to the inside o the front seam while the 4th button was placed just to the front of the rear sleeve seam. The cuffs could be unbuttoned and let down to offer protection to the soldier's hands in cold weather.
The side vents on the coat's skirts were sewn closed all the way to the bottom. They were set with a shallow pleat. A regimental button was placed at the top of the seam and provided reinforcement as well as decoration. The top of the pleat was in a line the the top of the false pocket flaps and the bottom of the coat's lapels.
